The combination of the CHP1 sensor technology with smart interface advantages makes the SHP1 even better, and with faster response.

The smart interface not only provides versatile outputs, the integrated temperature sensor and digital polynomial functions also provide individual correction for the temperature sensitivity of the detector from -40 °C to +80 °C. The standardised output makes it easy to interchange instruments for recalibration.

SHP1 pyrheliometers have extremely low power consumption so that internal heating does not affect the detector performance. They operate from a wide range of supply voltages, making them ideal for power-critical applications, and the power input is protected against reversed polarity.

Two versions are available, SHP1-V has an analogue output of 0-1 V, SHP1-A is 4-20 mA. Both have a 2-wire RS-485 serial interface with Modbus® RTU protocol that provides a range of instrument status and configuration information, with user-selectable options.

The analogue outputs allow easy connection to virtually any data logger without the need for sensitive mV inputs. Modbus® interfaces directly to PLC and SCADA systems, industrial networks and controllers. A recalibrated instrument keeps the same analogue and digital measurement ranges, saving time by eliminating re-scaling of data collection equipment.

Kipp & Zonen SmartExplorer Windows™ software for instrument configuration, data display and data logging is available at no charge.

SUV5 is a Smart version of the CUV5 with digital signal processing. The accurate polynomial temperature correction and linearization make it ideal for monitoring high intensity UV lamps used in environmental test chambers.

Specific parts of the UV spectrum such as UVA, UVB or UVE / UV Index cannot be derived from the SUV5 measurements. For measurement of these individual parameters our specific SUV models are required.

SUV5 has a RS-485 interface with Modbus® RTU communication protocol and an amplified analog signal output. It can operate from 5 to 30 VDC and takes little power. The calibrated sensitivity is stored in the SUV memory so that the digital data is directly in W/m2 and the analog output range is standardized.  SUV’s can be interchanged and no changes have to be made in the data logger or data acquisition system after recalibration.

Use our free SmartExplorer Windows™ software for display of data , data logging, to a PC and for changing Modbus® address and communication settings.

SUV5 is compatible with the same accessories as our SMP range of pyranometers.

The CNR4 net radiometer measures the energy balance between incoming short-wave and long-wave Far Infrared (FIR) radiation versus surface-reflected short-wave and outgoing long-wave radiation.

The CNR4 net radiometer consists of a pyranometer pair, one facing upward, the other facing downward, and a pyrgeometer pair in a similar configuration. The pyranometer pair measures the short-wave radiation. And the pyrgeometer pair measures long-wave radiation. The upper long-wave detector of CNR4 has a meniscus dome. This ensures that water droplets role off easily and improves the field of view to nearly 180°, compared with a 150° for a flat window. All 4 sensors are integrated directly into the instrument body, instead of separate modules mounted onto the housing. But are each calibrated individually for optimal accuracy.

Two temperature sensors, a Pt-100 and Thermistor, are integrated for compatibility with every data logger. The temperature sensor is used to provide information to correct the infrared readings for the temperature of the instrument housing. Care has been taken to place the long-wave sensors close to each other and close to the temperature sensors. This assures that the temperatures of the measurement surfaces are the same and accurately known. Which improves the quality of the long-wave measurements.

The design is very light in weight and has an integrated sun shield that reduces thermal effects on both long-wave and short-wave measurements. The cables are yellow with waterproof connectors as used with all our new radiometers. The mounting rod can be unscrewed for transport.

An optional CNF4 ventilation unit with heater is designed as an extension of the sunshield and can be fitted new to the CNR4 or retro-fitted later. This unit is compact and provides efficient air-flow over the domes and windows to minimize the formation of dew and reduce the frequency of cleaning. The integrated heater can be used to melt frost.

DustIQ monitors the loss of light transmission caused by dust, sand, pollen, or any other particles on PV panels using Kipp & Zonen’s new and innovative Optical Soiling Measurement (OSM) technology. The DustIQ has no moving parts and it does not need sunlight to operate. Rather, it uses an internal light source to measures scattered and reflected light that is directly proportional to soiling accumulation on the surface of the DustIQ.

The DustIQ is unique because it does not require routine cleaning and mechanical maintenance, it is easily mounted directly in between framed PV modules on fixed and tracked sites, and is cleaned only when the modules are cleaned.

Module cleaning is most economically viable when the revenue losses and performance penalties caused by soiling exceed the operational costs of monitoring and cleaning. DustIQ provides the information for solar energy plant management systems so that you can decide exactly when and where to clean. The cost-effective price of the DustIQ makes it feasible to install a network of DustIQ units to monitor the variation in soiling over across an entire PV plant.

SOLYS2 is the most widely used sun tracker around the world in solar energy and meteorological applications. It has Baseline Surface Radiation Network (BSRN) levels of performance and reliability. Installation and operation of the SOLYS2 is much easier than many other sun trackers on the market.

With the optional top mounting plate and shading assembly SOLYS2 can be configured as a complete solar monitoring station with up to three ventilated Kipp & Zonen radiometers. A large range of mounting kits is available for direct solar radiation instruments.

An advance over conventional sun trackers is the integrated GPS receiver to automatically configure location and time data upon installation. SOLYS2 does not require a computer and software for setup. Leveling is easily checked using the integrated bubble level on top.

The rugged and distinctive cast aluminum housing has an integrated tripod stand with leveling feet, azimuth adjustment and provision for tie-down bolts. A side plate with zenith adjustment and mountings for a Kipp & Zonen CHP1 pyrheliometer is included.

SOLYS2 does not suffer from internal clock drift because the time is regularly updated by the GPS receiver. If the tracker is correctly leveled and aligned, and mounted on a solid and stable support, it will continue to point accurately. An optional sun sensor is available for active tracking, to correct for motion in a support affected by changing environmental conditions.

SOLYS2 can operate from AC or 24 VDC power, both inputs are available as standard. The operating temperature range from – 20 °C to + 50 °C on DC power can be extended to -40 °C on AC power using the standard internal heater.

SOLYS2 brings to the sun tracker market distinctive design, innovative features, performance, quality and unprecedented ease of use – all at a surprisingly affordable price.

The design of the SOLYS2 sun tracker is based on Kipp & Zonen open source software.

SOLYS Gear Drive is a high end sun tracker for all weather conditions and locations. It builds on the features of the SOLYS 2 and has enhanced capabilities that make it suitable for use with heavy loads and in the harshest climates. It has the power to point accurately at the sun in very high winds, and to break the ice that can build up overnight when the tracker is ‘sleeping’.

High payload for multiple and / or heavy instruments

The high precision gear drive system requires no regular maintenance and is much more powerful than the belt drive system of the SOLYS2. The maximum payload is increased to 80 kg and the torque is raised to 60 Nm, allowing SOLYS Gear Drive to carry multiple and/or heavy instruments and other loads. The integrated GPS receiver automatically configures location and very accurate time information upon installation.

Smart software for real-time status information

The included user interface software allows remote monitoring and logging of the tracker status, sun zenith and azimuth angles, GPS time and date and more. The software can also be used to set the communication parameters such as fixed or manual IP address and baud rate. The integrated Web Interface can be used to visualise (get and set) operational parameters, download history log files or upload new firmware when available.

What you need to build a solar monitoring station

To build your solar radiation measurement station the SOLYS Gear Drive is the base to hold an array of instruments to monitor solar and sky radiation. The shading assembly and other mounting accessories from the SOLYS2 can all be fitted. For operation in extremely cold regions an insulated cold weather cover is available that allows use in temperatures down to -50°C and with wind speeds up to 20m/s. For very hot climates a sun shield can be fitted, extending the upper temperature range to +60°C.

SOLYS Gear Drive has the mountings for pyrheliometer already fitted and includes the sun sensor for active tracking. However, it does not include a tripod stand. It can be used with the cast aluminum SOLYS Tripod Floor Stand but, for use in extreme conditions and with high loads, the Heavy Duty Tripod Floor Stand is recommended.

SOLYS Gear Drive has been tested and protected against the highest levels of ESD, EMC and surge disturbances that might be experienced.

The SOLYS Gear Drive sun tracker with high precision reduction gear combines the highest payload, the widest temperature range and most advanced communication with smart software for real-time status information.

The SMP10 is a spectrally flat Class A pyranometer and has an internal desiccant that will last for at least 10 years if the housing is not opened. This minimizes maintenance significantly.

From the individually measured temperature response, a specific polynomial correction function is calculated for SMP10. This is loaded into the pyranometer memory and results in a very low change in sensitivity with instrument temperature: Within ± 2% over the range from -40°C to +70°C, compared to the calibration temperature of +22°C.

The interval for dome cleaning can be extended, and the quality of measurements maximized, by fitting SMP10 with the CVF4 ventilation unit.

The SMP10 has Modbus® interface, amplified analogue output, improved response time and temperature corrected measurement data. The wide and low power supply range from 5 to 30 VDC makes integration in meteorological and solar energy stations easy.
